Digital Work

NFT

Digital works as an extension of the physical artwork, its history, and the stories surrounding it.

For nearly twenty years, my work has explored the transformation of public images—particularly mugshots—into contemporary portraiture through silkscreen, painting, photography, and mixed media.

NFTs offer another way for that work to evolve.

I see the digital artwork not as a replacement for the physical piece, but as an extension of its story. A digital work can preserve elements that a canvas alone cannot: movement, sound, animation, archival material, video, and the history surrounding the image.

This idea is also becoming part of Rooted in Los Angeles (RILA), my ongoing portrait and documentary project celebrating the people and stories that have shaped Los Angeles. RILA gives me an opportunity to connect physical art with interviews, documentary footage, digital works, and collectible editions—creating a record that can live both physically and digitally.

For me, the technology is secondary. The story comes first.

Whether the final work is a silkscreen, a film, a digital collectible, or something that exists across all three, the goal remains the same: to capture a moment, preserve its history, and give the image a life beyond the moment in which it was created.
